The app has continuous glitches that the owners are not able to fix. The program is great, but the actual functionality is horrible.

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Tyah - Unfortunately there are so many different types of phone, screen sizes, operating systems, etc that it can be hard to get apps working perfectly across the board. If you contact customer support we will try our best to troubleshoot your system.

In general Rocket Spanish does a decent job teaching the language. However, it fails to explain the rules and reasoning for the language's grammar, especially when a phrase or sentence contains multiple verbs. Also, so far (into lesson 1 of section 2) there has been no explanation of the Spanish use of the word "lo". I am struggling with the contextual grammar, and I don't think it's really any fault of my own.

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Martin - Have you had a chance to check out the Language & Culture lessons? These lessons are all about grammar and take you through how the language works step by step. You can find an explanation on what happens when verbs are used together in a sentence in Lesson 2.8 under the heading "Using Two Verbs in a Row" and an explanation on LO and how it works in Lesson 5.6 under the heading "The Thing About LO"

Unfortunately, it's not going to be "awesome".

1. There is way too much English in the units. As a former language teacher I believe focus should be in the target language as much as possible.
2. The voice recognition does not work and cannot be calibrated. Doing the speaking units is useless.
3. The write it section should check what you wrote and not let you progress until you have it correct.

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Scott - Thanks for your review. It is important to note that the first few lessons do have a reasonable amount of English, and that this lessens as you progress through the course and get to know more Spanish. The voice recognition does work, and if you are having problems then please check the FAQs, contact customer support, or try the Rocket Languages Android/iOS apps. The "Write it" section does check what you write. As with all our activities the rating we give is a guideline that you can either accept or rate yourself.

I think RS is trying to do too much. Needs to be shorter. If you follow the lesson plans now, it takes 2-3 hours to fully complete a lesson. That’s too much for the average person. You might consider having stages of lessons - a shorter test section then another layer for those who have more time. Flash cards should note be 68. Maybe 20 of the most important, for example.
Love the narrative lessons, they are perfect.

I like the variety of lessons. All of the lessons involving spoken Spanish are helping me with my biggest weakness, which is understanding Spanish when it is spoken.
I do have one major complaint, and that is that more effort should be put into giving a more accurate and useful English interpretation. The addition of an exact literal translation would both provide lessons in the word order of Spanish, and also help with learning new Spanish words. All too often I am wondering if this word that I have been introduced to before has a new meaning, or does it just look that way due to the interpretation being based on what a sentence means, and not on what it actually says. (e.g.: "me gusta" means "I like", but it literally says "me it pleases")

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Wayne - You may not have noticed, but there is a "Lit." notation next to phrases that need a literal translation. Mouse-over that, and it will display the literal translation. We don't do this everywhere, as literal translations can be viewed as a crutch if used extensively.

I only use the web interface. I'm not a fan of apps on my phone. The web interface mostly works but the microphone interface throws error messages and hasn't worked since day 1. I've also had issues with leaving notes and trying to use the contact form. I've tried both Safari and Brave browsers with the same results on both.

Support has be lackluster. I also tried to call the phone # from the website and got an error from Verizon that the call couldn't be completed as dialed. This has happened multiple times.

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Stephen - Thanks for your feedback. I will check into why you have had trouble reaching us. In the meantime, I will email you directly to see what we can do.

I am early on in the lessons but, already having "un poco" Spanish, I am finding the lessons to be of not a lot of use, so far. I am hoping that will improve as I progress through them. However, I must say that the speech recognition facility is woeful!

I am unable to rate "Customer Service" as I haven't had any.

Response from Rocket Languages

Thanks for your feedback Paul. We hope you're starting to find the lessons more useful. Regarding the speech recognition, we recommend either checking the FAQs, or contacting Customer Support directly with a description of the problem you're having. Thanks so much!

I just started the advanced course and I find the conversation very difficult to follow. It is hard to
Understand because the speech is fast and slurred not clearly spoken. Especially when new words and phrases are used..
The first two courses don't prepare you well enough with verb conjugation either.

Response from Rocket Languages

Thanks so much for your review. We would love for you to contact the Customer Support team with information on the conversations you are having trouble with so we can check them from here. We would also encourage you to post any verb conjugation-related questions you have on the forum, which you will find by clicking on your avatar in the top-right corner of your members area, and selecting Tools. We look forward to hearing from you.

I don't like that the woman speaks Spanish with an american accent.
I would like to learn correct pronunciation from natives, not american speaking with accent
