Rocket languages really gave me the tools to succeed with my new language. It brought me to a level where I was finally comfortable speaking with native speakers and I was able to take off on my own after that. I highly recommend Rocket Languages to all my friends trying to learn a new language. Learning with this system felt practically effortless.

So far working through the Rocket Japanese lessons I am learning a lot slowly when I have time, It's very easy to pick up from where you left off and to review previous material. The speakers on the audio lessons are very clear and easy to understand which makes learning better as you can hear the proper pronunciation.

I spent ten years studying Mandarin Chinese and learned a fair amount about language learning in the process. I'm studying Japanese now using Rocket Japanese and have found it to be an efficient, effective platform for language self-learning. One small area for improvement would be to cut out the intro music and unnecessary banter in the downloadable audio lessons. They're nice to listen to the first time but get in the way while reviewing lessons. The other area that needs improvement is the Write It! lessons. The keyboard is too small and the main Hiragana keyboard only contains 45 of the 46 Hiragana characters, repeating the tsu character instead. The final Hiragana character, wo, is on the Alt keyboard rather than on the main keyboard in place of the redundant tsu character. It would also be very helpful if a Romaji keyboard was provided as it takes considerable hunting to find the right Hiragana characters for someone unfamiliar with them.

Well, I would be happier if I could do it for free longer because I'm only 15 and I dont have any money to pay for it, but it has been extremely helpful in the lessons I can do. I can now say greetings (basic ones), and know that Atatakai is hot in japanese, which is good to know because if I go to Japan, I would like to know how to get a good, hot cup of coffee. So, overall, great for people who can actually pay for it, not for those who can't.

The voice recognition works pretty well. It struggles with very short sounds, but overall very good. I've used other programs that ask you to speak the answers, but the pronunciation analysis makes me try much harder to say each response out loud.

The romaji is good for beginners, but already know hiragana and katakana, so the romaji is very distracting. I wish there was an option to turn off romaji so I can practice reading.

Rocket Japanese is a pretty good introduction to Japanese. It's definitely far better than Rosetta Stone and a few other programs I had some experience with (but fortunately never actually wasted money on), but despite how they boast about teaching grammar, it does a woefully inadequate job of teaching even the most basic grammar, and there are some strange choices for vocabulary to teach: for instance, there is an entire survival kit that is more than 80% words that I will never use because I don't drink alcohol or eat pork or shrimp. That being said, when used alongside other resources, it can be a fantastic introduction to Japanese. I especially recommend Tangorin.com (a dictionary) as a vocab supplement and Tae Kim's "Guide to Japanese" for grammar.

I believe that the purpose to Rocket Japanese is to teach you enough of a language to be able to have some level of basic interaction with natives if you go to Japan. To actually be able to learn the language to any real degree of fluency, you'll need a lot more. Nihongonomori.com is a good place to go after completing Rocket Japanese if you want to keep going in your Japanese studies.

Rocket Japanese is definitely worth the money: for the price of one year of weekly language course, you actually get more to learn and practice. I really enjoy the audio courses which are delightful. And the interactive website is well designed as well, except the audio recognition system which still needs some improvement. I really would like to see more interesting learning materials in future, and maybe some recommendations on videos, articles and cultural items that I can go look at.
