The lessons are interesting and good. I've learned so much on how to pronounce words that seems difficult for me. You can download the audio and learn everywhere and anytime you want. I'm a student that needs to learn German because I want to study there and learn about medical science. But how am I gonna do that I don't know how to say my name, where I came from, and ask people how they are? So, I tried the 7 days trial and I'm so happy about it. Overall, their features are awesome, the native speakers are awesome, everything is awesome except for the price, hehe :D. Maybe Rocket Language can consider giving a special discount for students.
This could easily be a 5 star program, but there are enough poor choices by the designers that make it less valueable or frustrating to use that I am being generous to give this 3 stars. The bottom line is that it works, and it did better for me than when I used Rosetta Stone to learn another language.
I have been using this program for 10 months and have had 3 visits to Germany during this time related to work. This is where I think the program isn't good:
1. This program stresses in the informal ways of addressing people. Germans, especially in business, use the formal case (Sie not Du).
2. The program doesn't teach any language rules, rather just provides example after example such as how to conjugate a verb.
3. THe most frustrating part is that the program tries to inculcate easy words (Ja, Nein), and sometimes not useful words like Wunderbar constantly, but doesn't stress words that are important to know such as to want, to like, to take, to need. If someone can't get Ja and Nein correct after the third lesson, then they need to quit.
4.
Very Good. Very Helpful. I studied, and learned the German Language ( Deutche Sprache) in 1992, when I was living in Germany until 1998. Now I am Living in USA, since 1998 to date 01/2019. I have forgotten the language a little, as I have nobody to speak in German language. Now, I have developed my knowledge of German as a result of follow up the Rocket Language website.
Thanks
I am very pleased. I have barely gotten started, but so far it exceeds expectations. I especially like the structure of the lessons. It strikes a good balance of listening, speaking, spelling, and grammar. Es ist sehr gut!
I'm pleased with Rocket German. The program has worked well on my iMac, provided I use the Chrome browser. Lessons are well sorgfanized, and if you keep at it day and are using the grammar as well as interactive lessons your fluency and reading will improve. I'm doubtful that writing will make similar progress as the structure is not a good, at leas so far, for teaching students to write German well, though students do get plenty of practice transcribing what they hear. I would not hesitate to recommend it to somebody wishing to learn to read and speak better German. I find it does help to make a point to watch movies and TV programs in German.
I am happy with the course and how it is presented. Impressed with the App.
I invested nearly $450 with Pimsleur and it was not value for money.
Am French born in Paris of British parents so bilingual at an early age, my wife is Italian so I also speak it. After I finish this German course, I may consider investing in your Spanish course
Best regards
While I am enjoying, and learning from Rocket language I have two major gripes. 1) Many of the conversations are between to native English speakers who do not pronounce like native Germans (Which is the goal of language learning) and the audio "lesson" can get rather tedious and forced sounding. 2) On many of the conversations, when you "play as..." if the person laughs, moans, chuckles, or makes other noncommittal noises, you still must sound exactly like they do to pass that section, even though I can intentionally mispronounce words in hard mode and it will pass me to the next section otherwise.
Response from Rocket Languages
Hi Brian; there is one non-native speaker in the Interactive Audio course (Level 1), in-line with our philosophy of providing the most effective online language learning courses possible, we will be replacing that audio with a native speaker within the next couple of months.
I previously purchased Rocket Italian and learned quite a bit in preparation for travel. I'm now onto Rocket German as a refresher: many years ago, I learned German. In my experience, using Rocket as a refresher course has been particularly effective. Sometimes the pacing of the lessons can be a bit overwhelming (especially around verbs). For instance, in the Italian course, occasionally, a huge amount of information would be dumped on the learner, and it became a matter of learning by rote. Overall, however, I think Rocket Languages are a very satisfying way to learn languages and feel more a part of the rest of the world. I think the pricing is more than reasonable.
Great program, very interactive. Makes you stay on track, slowly teaching you the needed words, phrases, sentences... Very good speech recognition software, highly effective. If I take up more languages, I will definitely use Rocket Languages!
Rocket Spanish is quite engaging. It has a good mix of verbal, written and listening practice, addressing different learning styles. The balance between speaking and learning the grammar is excellent. Amy and Mauricio are excellent Spanish mentors whose voices are pleasant, easy to listen to and encouraging.
