So far RL is okay. The audios are entertaining, but a tad slow and I wished that they were a bit less English-heavy as it really breaks my French-thinking mindset. Any technical issues (and there are quite a few given the nature of the voice recognition software) that are reported fall onto deaf ears. Overall, it's an okay program, but needs heavy supplementation from grammar and vocab books (as all learners should have anyway).

Rocket Language is a great learning tool. I had put it down for a while but just picked it back up again and I am loving the changes. It is teaching me conversational Japanese and writing which is very important. I do it in conjunction with podcasts from japancast.net and it has been great.

I like the mix of writing speaking, etc. And I like that it is all online and I can do it at my own pace. I am hoping to be able to read and write well in a few months and I feel like I am making great strides to get there.

Thank you ROCKET LANGUAGE!!!

The courses themselves are good however, Speech recognition is woeful.

Some days, there are no issues with speak recognition and then on others I often get many "no speech detected" errors followed by "speech recognition is busy". this makes the course unusable when this happens.

Response from Rocket Languages

We're sorry to hear that the issues you're experiencing with the speech recognition are affecting your learning. Please reach out to us at [email protected], and we'll be more than happy to schedule a call with our expert IT team to see how we can assist you!

I've had this a few weeks now, but I've been so busy with work, that I haven't taken the necessary time to keep up with the lessons. However, I should be able to get the block of time needed to proceed soon. The transcripts are very helpful to me since I have a hearing loss that is not too helpful learning French (or speaking English!) If patience is a virtue, the Rocket staff should be eligible for sainthood soon.

I really appreciate your style of teaching, because it's based on quality and effectiveness to the customer. Which should be commended because you didn't sacrifice those qualities for a scientifically unproven way of teaching.

I'm not going to sugarcoat this, so don't look for it in any Rocket promotional material. :-)

Had a little bit of an issue when trying to buy this product. Wasn't Rocket's fault and they were very helpful in getting it resolved.

I am currently at lesson 2.4.

This is a good product for learning and practicing speech in Japanese. The exercises are very geared towards that, along with some writing. While it has been great for speech, I use a different product for grammar.

The interface is simple to figure out and use, so you don't have to waste a lot of time trying to figure out how to do courses. Japanese is hard enough as it is without trying to master a weird interface too.

This is really meant to help the student SPEAK the language, not necessarily stressing grammar too much, though it might in later lessons.

I've used a lot of tools for learning Japanese, but Rocket is the best at making you speak the language instead of just listening to lessons. That's why I purchased the whole product.

As for issues with the software, I had a few minor ones. At first, I would either have audio, or I could record my voice, but not both. To resolve this, I had to completely reinstall my browser.

Response from Rocket Languages

Thanks for pointing out the spacing issue when writing reviews. We will fix that asap! Also, it is possible to flag (from within the Tests) phrases like the example you give. We can then look into what is causing that

I have been using the program for about a month and a half now and I have found it somewhat useful. My level is above that of a new beginner but not quite yet intermediate. My concerns about the program, starting with the idea that most people want what will be most useful i.e. picking up useful spoken language for travel, is that particularly when testing, the program expects your responses to be almost in the same order as their introduction. If the expected answer starts with Tu and you use the Vous form, you are marked as incorrect. The program should note what form is wanted. A "hint" function also would be nice to help someone with responses as learning, not just simple memorization, is the goal. The program also occasionally makes some unexpected detours from what is useful. For example, one lesson moved from general travel issues to a flight of fancy to go skiing. I did not find a lot of useful information in that lesson. Finally, today I took a test which contained a large number of questions involving the "passe simple". The last question on the test asked how much one would expect to hear the passe simple and the correct answer was "almost never". So, I feel a lot of time was wasted that could have been better spent elsewhere. I hope these comments are considered helpful. There are good things here but a few tweaks would make it much better.

I'm still near the beginning of Rocket Italian. Too basic for me but it's a good review and a chance to practice pronunciation. Maria is delightful as is the American, Alessandro. However, you might have been able to find an American with better pronunciation. Sometimes the way he says a word in Italian can be very jarring.

I studied Spanish and Portuguese up to B2 level many years ago and I have school French so Romance languages are not new to me nor is language learning as an adult.

I started with this course as a beginner in Italian 6 months ago. I am now completing the final Platinum stage of the course. I reckon that I am now at level B1 or lower B2 in the Common European Framework language classification.

What I like about Rocket Italian: The interactive pronunciation check using the Chrome browser; practical and useful conversation topics from the start; variety of practise in each exercise, repetition, writing, translation English to Italian and repetition of the dialogue. The point scoring system which helps maintain motivation

What I do not like: Lack of attention to detail in course material particularly towards the end of each level with mistranslations, and other mistakes. When you point out the mistakes in the feedback they are corrected but it is as if they rely on their students to proof read the course. Too much English spoken in the more advanced lessons. Odd choice of what grammar points to explain. (In some lessons simple and obvious points were explained while more complex grammar items were not.

Rocket Spanish

I love learning new languages! I can speak conversational German and, to a lesser extent, Croatian.

Recently I was inspired to learn Spanish by a friend and so I spent hours and hours poring over reviews of the various online language learning options. There were so many options out there but nothing really felt like it was "the one" until I came across Rocket Spanish! Now, some people are happy with simply learning how to speak a language by only learning phrases but I'm one of those who really need to understand the grammar behind the phrases and sentences. So, when I came across Rocket Spanish, I was extremely excited to see that, not only will I get to learn to speak the language like a native speaker and in a way that suits my learning style (Visual) but also that the course is packed with quality lessons in grammar.

What really impresses me about Rocket Spanish is the emphasis on repeating words or phrases out loud (not just in my head). This is such an important factor in accelerating one's fluency in a non-native language. After all, if you want to speak a new language, then you really do need to speak it out loud! I only wish that I had come across Rocket when I learned German and Croatian! It would most certainly have saved me countless hours and dollars wasted on ineffective methods.
