Here I go again, I thought! Yet another attempt to learn a language I have been studying from the age of 11 years. I am now nearly 70. I just don't seem to be grasping the speaking part! I can understand reasonably well what is spoken to me, but by the time the brain cells function and my mouth begins to open another topic as been started. Enter Rocket Language, stage left. Brilliant! I can start where I want. I can dip in, dip out, go back, go forward, become extremely studious or just forget it. Just what I need for my type of lifestyle. To top it all there are those little stealthy reminders that gnaw on your conscience sending little waves of guilt through the synapses of your brain. Would I recommend it? Yes! It encourages me to keep moving sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly, but ever forward. Kieran
I like RocketLanguages' overall approach, but I don't like that the Test area only accepts one answer. Sometimes there are multiple correct answers, and those should be revealed as correct answers as well. Another thing that could be improved is the amount of content from previous lessons that's interspersed into later lessons. The quizzes in particular should test knowledge from previous lessons as well as the current lesson.
Its a very useful tool to help improve language skills with excellent breakdown of sentences and explanations on why things are said. It helps if you have a basic knowledge of the language beforehand.
I have many programs such as Francais Authentique, Fluenz French, Rosetta Stone, etc., but I like Rocket programs because it allows me to practice to listen and talk. You can learn grammar by books but getting accustomed to French and actually to voice some phrases, this is very good. I would like to listen to TV5 or RFI and understand them with ease some day.
I am really enjoying my Rocket Japanese experience so far. You all have really created a very well rounded system for learning a new language. I love the diversity of information and mediums of teaching.
I was always fascinated by Chinese culture and language and thats why i decided to purchase Rocket Languages. I payed for this course 5 years ago but unfortunately as soon as i completed lesson 1 too many things came up in my life that i had to stop. Now 5 years later i decided to come back to it (luckily i had written the password) because my passion for Chinese was still there. Anyway I give Rocket Languages a highly recommended review because it really makes it easy for you to follow. The ability to record and compare conversations is awesome. Its like you are talking to someone in real life. Also they make it really fun to learn by playing games, doing quizzes and even final module tests to see how good you have become. Definitely recommend rocket languages, best one i have found online.
Rocket Italian was my first Rocket Language. I had always found Italian a beautiful language, yet had never made the time to learn it in a class. It's been a while since college, and I feel that Rocket Languages has given me the opportunity to fulfil this lifelong goal. For a language that I have pursued wholly independently, I feel energized by doing the lessons at the end of the work day. The characters within it are fun, and the scenarios from getting parking tickets to going to the opera are varied parts of life and travel. It's not real travel, but it is escapist with a balance of education. Unlike another online program I use, I direct which exercises I want to do when, which is a matter of preference, but as an adult, I like to navigate my own learning. Love the Leaderboard, and the unpredictably occurring badges, as well as the printable Module Certificates.
Tanoshi and omoshiroi! I enjoy doing the lessons since I can hear the sound and tone of the language and see the written forms. Learning is easy when I can repeat things as much as I want to get the right pronunciation and tone. The culture lessons are extremely helpful to know the context of the words and phrases that I am learning.
It is difficult to begin--there is no easy way to start learning right off the bat, one has to search for the book/lessons. Learning would be easier if you could click a button to take you to a lesson (the most recent), with links to all of the information you need to continue on. This way you can just click start and get back to learning.
Overall, I've enjoyed the Rocket German product. It would be very helpful to have a set of audio control buttons (play/pause/rewind 3 sec) positioned directly beneath the Quick Settings on the left margin of the web page for the interactive lessons. When I listen to the interactive lessons on a computer, I constantly have to scroll from the line in the lesson back to the top of the page to pause/replay a word/phrase. Similarly, a rewind 3 sec button on the phone version is desperately needed. Lastly, I would like to see a video option for the Language & Culture Lessons. Reading through all of this is a little dry. I want to watch/hear an instructor saying these words/phrases. Thanks
