I have many programs such as Francais Authentique, Fluenz French, Rosetta Stone, etc., but I like Rocket programs because it allows me to practice to listen and talk. You can learn grammar by books but getting accustomed to French and actually to voice some phrases, this is very good. I would like to listen to TV5 or RFI and understand them with ease some day.
Here I go again, I thought! Yet another attempt to learn a language I have been studying from the age of 11 years. I am now nearly 70. I just don't seem to be grasping the speaking part! I can understand reasonably well what is spoken to me, but by the time the brain cells function and my mouth begins to open another topic as been started. Enter Rocket Language, stage left. Brilliant! I can start where I want. I can dip in, dip out, go back, go forward, become extremely studious or just forget it. Just what I need for my type of lifestyle. To top it all there are those little stealthy reminders that gnaw on your conscience sending little waves of guilt through the synapses of your brain. Would I recommend it? Yes! It encourages me to keep moving sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly, but ever forward. Kieran
The accent is laughable. As in, my spanish friends couldn't stop laughing. It's Mexican spanish, in a bad accent. The plays and lessons are mired in stereotypes, sexist, and awful. As far as actually learning Spanish goes, I'm struggling on with it, but I can't say it's really helped so far. Hopefully it will start sticking, but having spent six weeks in Madrid recently, I didn't feel this course helped me at all, and I was still struggling with even the most basic conversations. There doesn't seem to be any background to the lessons, or intricacies of the verbs and their conjugations, which are just brushed over.
I've paid for it now, so will keep persevering for the moment, but I regret the purchase.
Response from Rocket Languages
A wide variety of voices are used on Rocket Spanish. They are mainly Latin American, as that is the Spanish being taught. Mauricio is from Chile, there are also voices from Ecuador, Nicaragua, Argentina and more!
Wonderful woman Italian speaker. Most beautiful Roman Italian. But totally exasperating waste of time as the American goes on and on and on with useless chit chat. I don't have that time to waste and have given up on this program
Hi Richard - Did you notice the Language & Culture lessons? They have thousands of Italian words and phrases that don't have the "chit-chat". In saying that many people do find the chit-chat entertaining.
I found the first level excellent. Both presenters were extremely clear. I'm on to the intermediate course now though and finding it much tougher. It's the same female presenter and she's excellent, but the male presenter in this course is really difficult to understand, pronouncing words considerably differently from the original. They also leave way too little time to repeat the phrases in this one on the first attempt. The second seems to be ok. I've timed the first and in a lot of cases they leave less time than it took for them to say it, so hopeless for me as a beginner! A bit pricey, but overall it seems to be working.
The overall experience is really great! My only concern or issue is the trainor talks VERY fats and it never hurts to talk slower so I recommend you guys get on that or people may stop buying it out of frustration. But, that is the only thing I have found that is difficult about this training.
I started the last 5 days learning Russian seriously! I committed myself to wake up in the morning and start learning at least 30 mins. Watching the strikes and the points help with my motivation. I think this time I will really learn the language. In other to learn a language is not enough to say that you this lesson, you need to recall the information, and there are some options that I use in other to know if I did. It is amazing to hit the button a listen to it again, it really helps to have a good pronunciation. I use only English, when I want to review, then I speak and hit play. So far so good, I love my Russian Program, I have Level 1, 2, and Travelodges. The information is solid, I supplement myself with other programs too like Michel Thomas.
This is an amazing website! Rocket Korean is absolutely awesome! I've tried many things to help me learn Korean, and this is easily one of the best resources I've found so far,. I'm honestly so glad I found it when I did - it's helping me to work towards my future plans and goals make them seem so much more realistic.
I like that so much of the exercises use audio. Too many language teachers end up teaching how to read a language, but put very little emphasis on speaking and comprehension. I also really like the dictation exercises, mostly because they give me practice in comprehension of spoken Spanish.
Great program for french learners of all levels. The various learning techniques are very helpful and keep things interesting. The environment keeps me motivated to keep learning and continue moving forward. I highly recommend!
