Too many words introduced at a time to be able to truly memorize them. Lessons progress too quickly without real review on what has previously been taught. Need a way to review flashcards from all completed lessons in one spot. No response from customer service when a question asked.

Response from Rocket Languages

Thank you for your feedback! I suggest checking out our Rocket Certification tests, under the "Tools" section, you'll find useful tests to recap what you've studied here. We're very sorry to hear that you did not receive our response to your question, Brenda. I have resent this to your email address, so you should have received it. All the best!

The conversations to listen, follow along with, and repeat after, are pretty good and based in some realistic contexts. They were fine. Also, some of the explanations during the text-based lessons were decent explanations. My main issues are with the review, the study flashcards, listening and repeating, typing the sentences, then repeating them with only the translation. It felt less like trying to figure out what it was, and instead more on how much I could remember of the sentence or what I could memorize, and after about 45 days it gets old feeling like the only practice after the initial flashcards is memorization of sentences. It would be good to see some variations in those sentences for the flashcards, then the listening and repeat, then typing, then saying it. They could still use the same words maybe and have the overall vibe of the lesson, but when they're all the same exact sentences in the same exact order for four reviews in a row then it isn't really working towards figuring out what to say.

Thank you for your review. We have passed your suggestions about improving the reinforcement activities on to the Development team. All the best!

First of all, In the middle of exercises (as I'm trying to speak a German phrase) I get annoying popup windows asking me to write a review of Rocket German. I think that's pretty indicative of how much Rocket cares about me actually learning, an how much it just wants more business. In fact, just above this box where I'm typing, Rocket has a link to some "example reviews" which are glowing reports of how when you buy RG, all your wildest fantasies will come true. Since RG insists, though, here is my review...***

Right after I paid $250 dollars for the three German courses (the first of which I didn't even want, but you have no option to remove it from the bundle) I get directed to another page telling me I should really also buy another add-on course that normally costs $50, but they're going to give it to me for $30. Classic used-car salesman tactic. I decline. I'm directed to another page saying "Ok, we'll give it to you for $20, but only if you buy it right now. No kidding, this is your last chance!" Does it get any more sleazy than that?***

The German course was clearly written by native German speakers, which is good, but not really checked by a native English speaker for the quality of the English dialogue.

Very disappointed. I bought this primarily for verbal skills & to be confident to talk the language. The voice recognition software for all devices is dreadful. It is woefully inadequate & buggy.
Aside there aren't any repeat reinforcements in the lessons & each one is loaded with ‘additional’ vocabulary which confuses the core lesson.

Response from Rocket Languages

Hi Keith - There was an issue with voice recognition, which has now been resolved. We do recommend, if you are using a desktop/laptop, a headset microphone for best results.

I am having trouble when it is time to repeat the sentences. I have tried to contact you, but no one returned my call and no one answered my chat message.

Response from Rocket Languages

We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing trouble, Joanne. Please reach out to [email protected], and we'd be happy to arrange a technical support Zoom call with one of our friendly representatives.

I really like the interactive dialog with the conversation and chance to practice and record my responses and am pleased about what I've learned thus far. However, I really wish they would have more of this in each module vs. the 'self study'/written portions in each module. I learn best when I hear conversation/dialog vs. the dictation/response of the lessons. For example in module 1 there are 5 lessons of conversation but 10 lessons of pure dictation/response. This doesn't suit my learning style well.

So far RL is okay. The audios are entertaining, but a tad slow and I wished that they were a bit less English-heavy as it really breaks my French-thinking mindset. Any technical issues (and there are quite a few given the nature of the voice recognition software) that are reported fall onto deaf ears. Overall, it's an okay program, but needs heavy supplementation from grammar and vocab books (as all learners should have anyway).

This could easily be a 5 star program, but there are enough poor choices by the designers that make it less valueable or frustrating to use that I am being generous to give this 3 stars. The bottom line is that it works, and it did better for me than when I used Rosetta Stone to learn another language.

I have been using this program for 10 months and have had 3 visits to Germany during this time related to work. This is where I think the program isn't good:
1. This program stresses in the informal ways of addressing people. Germans, especially in business, use the formal case (Sie not Du).
2. The program doesn't teach any language rules, rather just provides example after example such as how to conjugate a verb.
3. THe most frustrating part is that the program tries to inculcate easy words (Ja, Nein), and sometimes not useful words like Wunderbar constantly, but doesn't stress words that are important to know such as to want, to like, to take, to need. If someone can't get Ja and Nein correct after the third lesson, then they need to quit.
