Rocket Languages review criteria
I started using Rocket Italian just one month ago and I can feel myself growing more and more comfortable with the language. I love the variety of ways the information is presented. I enjoy that each lesson makes you repeat and write the vocabulary/phrases so that they really stick. I am excited to continue learning and feel that I will be able to speak with increasing confidence as the lessons continue.
Thus far I am enjoying Rocket. I really like the explanations of why certain words are they way they are. It helps me understand the language.
Response from Rocket Languages
Thank you for your review, Melanie! We're glad to hear that Rocket Languages is working for you. Keep up the good work!
I first bought this language program over a year a go, just for fun but though my own fault, I didn't really appreciate nor use it properly, hence no results.
Recently, my reasons for needing to speak Italian changed and as with all goals, when you have a big enough "why" you find a way instead of finding excuses and since restarting with a routine and discipline, I have to say, I now look forward to my daily sessions.
I have only needed to contact Customer service once over an issue with the voice recognition and the auto responder email states service will be four to five days which for me is way too long. that said, I can comment favourably on a number of other things; the structure, the layout, and even the voice recognition for the majority of the time. but there is one thing I really like a lot! In fact, because of this, I discovered something about myself I didn't realise was such a driver for me. The Leaderboard!
The platform awards points for learning and displays your position benchmarked against other members over various time frames, last 24 hours, 7 days and so on.
I learn better when I understand the background of my subject. To that end, Rocket Italian explains the rules and irregularities of the Italian language, a nice contrast to programs that teach you only by correcting errors you make while learning, and without any explanation as to why you made the mistake.
In one week of Rocket Italian I've learned some things I didn't know after studying the language for years. That alone makes it well worth the price. I do recommend Rocket Italian.
I love Rocket Italian. I had studied Italian on my own for a few years. I am older so I did not learn it quickly, but I had made good progress. I had used Rosetta Stone and college workbooks I had purchased online. But there were definitely things I needed help with. Rocket Italian has helped me with pronunciation, increased my vocabulary, and helped with the proper use of prepositions and certain verbs. Prepositions can be incredibly confusing. This program is filling in all the blanks I needed help with before. I love the humor. I love the explanations of word usage I hadn't gotten before in my studies.
I rated it all 5's. I don't know if I will ever want to learn another language, but if I did, I would buy Rocket Italian. Having said that, I would also use Rosetta Stone again. Rocket Italian was the perfect addition and exactly what I needed. And if I wanted to give a gift to a grandchild who is learning a language, I would buy Rocket Italian. And I would recommend it to a friend.
The price was reasonable I thought. I bought it when it was on sale. I am getting my money's worth.
I have not really used the customer service. I called once. The person was nice.
I am enjoying learning Italian for my trip and it seems to make sense so far. Not sure of the customer service because I have not had to use it and cant choose stars based on use so I choose a one star. Sorry, hate fake stat boosting. I can say the search functionality is trash. I tried to search a simple word such as "Tomorrow" and it came up with no results. I have a feeling I will learn much and be happier than I would with Rosetta.
Hi,
I've been using Rocket Italian for a week now and find I'm learning more Italian than in an evening class I took at college three years ago. I like that I can listen to my recorded voice and immediately compare it to the native speaker. This allows me to greatly improve my pronunciation. The pacing of the lessons is good, though I have to review often previous lessons so as not to forget difficult parts from those lessons. I'm trying to complete one lesson each day. I spend 30 minutes, then take a break before returning to finish the lesson. I practice talking aloud to myself during the day repeating the words and phrases I've learned. I will be travelling to Umbria for a month in a year. I hope to be able to have simple conversations with the local people. So far I am very pleased with Rocket Italian. The regular price is expensive, but I managed to buy it with a promo code for 60% off. At that price it is a good value for all that you get. Also the forum is an excellent way to get answers to your questions. I recommend Rocket Italian to anyone wishing to learn this language!
Overall Rocket Italian is a pretty good system. You get exposed to the language in a variety of ways and have some explanation as to why a particular pattern exists.
It does have the problem that there is only one correct answer for each thing. This of course ignores the fact that many things can be said in slightly different ways. As an example the phrase "She is angry" technically can be said as either "Lei è arrabbiata" OR "È arrabbiata" however the only accepted answer is "È arrabbiata". In other places an answer is only accepted if it has a he/she indicator.
There are also numerous places where the English phrase refers to you plural but for some strange reason they have not realized that _every_ place they do that needs some kind of indicator that they mean you plural rather than you singular since English only has 'you'.
Overall the issues with Rocket Italian aren't that big but they make it feel more like you are memorizing lines in another language rather than learning another language. The dialogues are the worst for this as they slowly take away more of the words you are supposed to say but you have to say the phrase word for word to get it right even though there are times when you could get the same meaning across with slightly different words. (They really should package the dialogue portion so that it can be used by actors memorizing lines as that is what it does.)
2 months' before a 2 week trip to Italy - time to work on language skills. Rocket came recommended on some web sites, so I tried the free offer and then plunked down the money after working the free lesson. Try it, you'll like it!
I like the ability to go back to any lesson and review. The speech recognition (using Chrome browser and a microphone) is awesome.
I had study italian many years ago. I was quite fluent but since I forgot most of it. I like the spead they have during the first lesson. I feel I will be at last able to learn properly Dante's language.
