I have been using Rocket Italian for approximately 2 weeks now, i have used Pimsleur, the problem with Pimsleur is that they don't explain what you are learning, Rocket Italian explains as you go, every session is concise and clear, and the most important thing is that I'm learning.
Just a great program

Whenever i email Maria DiLorenzi i get a reply very very helpful.
I am really happy with this program! All the different aspects (listening, speaking, writing,...) are helping to really understand the language.
I absolutely love the layout of Rocket Japanese. The read and response questions as well as the pronunciation practice really helps to nail down such a complex language. I often listen to the lessons when it's not busy at work or when I'm driving so there's never a lot of downtime between lessons.
I do recommend that you use another learning app along with this one. With Japanese being the complex language that it is (especially for English speakers) it's recommended to learn the language from multiple perspectives, or even focus on something that you find is weaker than other aspects of the language (like Kanji or Pronunciation).
That being said, you can absolutely get by just by using this program. It is on the more expensive side, but if you're serious about learning the language it's an investment that should absolutely be considered.
I chose to take an online Spanish class after moving from Cleveland to Little Havana in Miami, FL. This course has been the perfect compliment to language immersion! I feel like I learn something on Rocket Spanish, and then I am immediately using it to communicate with my neighbors. Rocket Spanish has taught me so much already, and I have enjoyed the process so much. I am about halfway done with the course, and can't wait to see my fluency increase in the second half!
If Mauricio and Amy, the creators of Rocket Spanish see this-- thank you! You're very charming and engaging, and it has helped me learn Spanish.
I have regularly been to Germany over the last couple years for business and this year I decided I wanted to learn to speak German.
Not only for my trips to Germany, but because I work for a German company and have to interact with German colleagues frequently.
I tried a few free websites and was very disappointed, but then I stumbled on RocketLanguages and tried the free trial I was hooked, I loved the fact I could write the language and see the words spoken, that makes it so much easier to remember and pronounce the words. I purchased the first Module, and although I thought the price seemed high, I would do it again.
My German colleagues have commented on how quickly I have seemed to grasp and learn the language, and other English speaking colleagues who have been enrolled with a weekly company sponsored program (with terms and conditions) have also seen that my progress has exceeded theirs especially when it comes to actually speaking the language. I can only thank RocketLanguages, not that it didn't take effort and discipline from me to continue, but RocketLanguages just made it easy and fun!
I have used many resources to learn Japanese. I use Rocket Japanese to test what I learned, and learn topic specific language. Even just using it in that limited capacity it has been tremendously helpful. I spent almost 6 months in Japan during 2016. The things I learned here were invaluable for navigating restaurants, convenience stores, and many other activities.
When I bought this package I was looking for something like the Spanish101, Chinese101, etc series. I wanted something I could listen to while I ran or commuted places. The main reason I picked this was that it isn't a subscription service. I bought it and I was done.
After buying it I realized it was more interactive and engaging than my previous experiences with podcasts. Besides the engaging, and silly Japanese hosts, the activities to verify I am learning became a big help. I also loved that I could skip around to any lesson I felt I needed to work on. I have had this product long enough to see 2 new versions released and each time, the upgrades have made the product more usable, and helped me come back and work on my Japanese some more.
There are a few places they could improve. I know there is a lot more to learn. It would be great to see more levels, allowing people to advance further. Another improvement would be for them to speed up their conversations more. I feel that by the end of the third level they should be speaking at native or near native speed.
I speak for Rocket Japanese:
Price is fair, if you buy on sale. Still not cheap, but fair. I have learned a lot from Rocket Japanese. I mainly use the audio lessons. They are awesome. They are kept fun, but still are very challenging. I replay them at least once (but usually 3 to 4 times). The quizzes on the site are good too and do help me to remember. The site works good and is fast. I do not use the apps.
There are flaws, but i consider them as minor. The biggest one is that audio quality is not top notch. Don`t get me wrong: It is alright, but it could be better. A short audio file with just the vocab of the lesson (for every lesson) would be awesome too. But maybe that will come someday. Sometimes, i feel like the audio lessons are too challenging. But better this way than the other way around.
The biggest pro that speaks for Rocket Japanese is that i can use it anywhere. You can download all audio lessons, and use them on a normal mp3-player (no drm whatsoever). This is very important to me.
I am kind of an japanese learning addict and i prefer Rocket Languages over Pimsleur (you do learn a lot of vocabulary of it, but it does get boring). Rosetta Stone is good as a vocab trainer, but i prefer to have explanations.
Disappointed with not being able to download on android, windows, or apple platforms. This defeats the purpose of my purchase - wanted to listen during work drive. Also app not allowing the voice option. Why browser version only?
Not able to take quiz on android app.
Response from Rocket Languages
Hi Mark - The Android and iOS apps have been fully updated, and you can now play the Interactive Audio courses in the background.
Almost Great
The organization of material, and its presentation are great. There is one technical flaw, however, and it is major, and inexcusable in this very expensive app. In neither the Lesson or the Conversation can you stop or go back to something that you are not sure of. In learning a language, there are ALWAYS situations where something specific is not clear and you need to confirm or correct what you just heard. It’s amazing that you in order to find that specific thing you need to double check, you have to finish the entire lesson or entire conversation, go back to the very beginning and listen to the entire thing again! That is a MAJOR technical flaw, and I am amazed that, although it has been mentioned by other reviews, it hasn’t been fixed. If that were fixed, this would be a 5 star app, now it’s only a 3 star app.
I've only been using this program one week. For now, the sale price made this a reasonable purchase. I am not computer savvy, so this online experience was convenient for someone like me. I didn't have to worry about downloading software and figuring out how to get it to work. I just log in and start learning right away. So far, I have enjoyed it very much.
