Unlike Rosetta stone this teaches you things you can actually use and provides actual instruction. There is a good mixture of interactive audio lessons, activities, flash cards, review and more. It's nice to hear a native speaker and a non native (American) one too. I enjoy that this include some cultural pointers too. I can avoid ordering the wrong type of coffee for the wrong time of day! The mobile app seems a bit unresponsive. This has led me to doing most things on my Mac and listening to the audio portion on my iPhone on the way to work. I took a couple of years of Italian in college and this is a good way to learn all I forgot. It's helpful to have an explanation of some of the literal phases. Overall, great product for the money.
I love Rocket Italian. I had studied Italian on my own for a few years. I am older so I did not learn it quickly, but I had made good progress. I had used Rosetta Stone and college workbooks I had purchased online. But there were definitely things I needed help with. Rocket Italian has helped me with pronunciation, increased my vocabulary, and helped with the proper use of prepositions and certain verbs. Prepositions can be incredibly confusing. This program is filling in all the blanks I needed help with before. I love the humor. I love the explanations of word usage I hadn't gotten before in my studies.
I rated it all 5's. I don't know if I will ever want to learn another language, but if I did, I would buy Rocket Italian. Having said that, I would also use Rosetta Stone again. Rocket Italian was the perfect addition and exactly what I needed. And if I wanted to give a gift to a grandchild who is learning a language, I would buy Rocket Italian. And I would recommend it to a friend.
The price was reasonable I thought. I bought it when it was on sale. I am getting my money's worth.
I have not really used the customer service. I called once. The person was nice.
The program--either on desktop or tablet, often does not record my voice, and thus does not record portions of lessons. This is not getting better. Until Rocked Languages can improve its server, I'd advise avoiding the program.
Response from Rocket Languages
Hi Tim - We recommend using a headset microphone if you are on desktop. If you are using a tablet then we would recommend using the appropriate Android or iOS app. Please let customer support know if these suggestions don't fix the issue!
I have used rocket Spanish and loved it. I will soon be taking a trip to Italy so I am now trying to learn using rocket Italian . Rocket Languages, in my opinion, are the very best and easiest way to learn a new language.
Good common phrases. Basically, very happy with the course.
Negative: 1. At the end of each lesson are LONG phrases that are almost impossible to learn at the early stage. 2. One of the male readers is VERY difficult to understand, compared to all the others. He has the lowest voice and slurs unintelligible sounds.
I love Rocket Languages! I have Levels 1-3, which are extremely comprehensive. I enjoy the mix of listening, speaking, writing, and reading lessons. I was previously using Duolingo (which is free and great for basic learners), and it got me to about 60% fluency. I still needed lots of help with listening to conversations and answering in Italian, and that's where Rocket Italian has been most useful.
Great price and lots and lots of great tools to improve your language skills and become comfortable with your Italian.
I was extremely please by how all of the review show higher rating compared to other programs (i.e: Rosetta Stone) and how the price is much lower. The content is great, by providing you with means to speak, listen, and practice your italian, as well as learn about the culture and costumes of the country and the people.
I also enjoy knowing that I have lifetime access to the software and all that it comes with, which allows me to go back to it whenever I please.
Rocket Italian is an amazing product! I've tried Rosetta Stone in the past but found their lesson plans to be boring. Rocket Italian is engaging and an overall better value since it's far less expensive.
I'm having so much fun learning the language of my parents and grandparents. I didn't learn Italian growing up as my parents wanted to be American. When they got older they regretted not having taught us. But it's never too late to learn. I took 4 years of French in high school, so some of this is a bit familiar to me, however that was many years ago. Thank you for making this so much fun.

Overall Rocket Italian is a pretty good system. You get exposed to the language in a variety of ways and have some explanation as to why a particular pattern exists.
It does have the problem that there is only one correct answer for each thing. This of course ignores the fact that many things can be said in slightly different ways. As an example the phrase "She is angry" technically can be said as either "Lei è arrabbiata" OR "È arrabbiata" however the only accepted answer is "È arrabbiata". In other places an answer is only accepted if it has a he/she indicator.
There are also numerous places where the English phrase refers to you plural but for some strange reason they have not realized that _every_ place they do that needs some kind of indicator that they mean you plural rather than you singular since English only has 'you'.
Overall the issues with Rocket Italian aren't that big but they make it feel more like you are memorizing lines in another language rather than learning another language. The dialogues are the worst for this as they slowly take away more of the words you are supposed to say but you have to say the phrase word for word to get it right even though there are times when you could get the same meaning across with slightly different words. (They really should package the dialogue portion so that it can be used by actors memorizing lines as that is what it does.)
